The Funk Freaks are a globally operating DJ collective with a strong focus on the sound of the 1980s – especially boogie, disco, modern soul, and funk.

While many people associate funk primarily with Black music from the 1960s and ’70s,
the 1980s had their own distinct – and often overlooked – funk vibe.

Think of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” or his iconic album “Off the Wall.”
Between 1979 and 1984, countless records were released that never made it to mainstream radio.
Many acts and their indie labels simply lacked the financial means to commercially promote their high-quality and creative productions.

That’s exactly where the Funk Freaks come in:
They dig up these forgotten gems from the vaults of funk and bring them back to the dancefloor.

Their mission is “Strictly Vinyl” – they spin nothing but records.
Not only do ultra-rare and danceable tracks make it onto the turntables,
but the occasional classic also gets its well-deserved spotlight as the night unfolds.

Die Funk Freaks sind ein weltweit operierendes DJ-Kollektiv, das ein besonderes Augenmerk auf den Sound der 80er Jahre legt – speziell Boogie, Disco, Modern Soul und Funk.

Viele Menschen verbinden das Genre Funk vor allem mit der schwarzen Musik der 60er und 70er Jahre.
Doch auch die 80er hatten ihren ganz eigenen, oft übersehenen Funk-Sound.

Wer kennt nicht Michael Jacksons „Thriller“ oder das Album „Off the Wall“?
Zwischen 1979 und 1984 erschienen zahllose Platten, die es nicht in die Radiostationen jener Zeit schafften.
Viele Acts und ihre Indie-Labels verfügten schlicht nicht über die finanziellen Mittel, ihre hochwertigen und kreativen Produktionen kommerziell zu vermarkten.

Und genau hier setzen die Funk Freaks an:
Sie graben diese vergessenen Perlen aus der Schatzkiste des Funk und bringen sie zurück auf die Tanzfläche.

„Strictly Vinyl“ lautet ihre Mission – aufgelegt werden ausschließlich Schallplatten.
Dabei finden nicht nur extrem rare und tanzbare Tracks ihren Weg auf die Plattenteller,
auch der eine oder andere Klassiker wird im Laufe der Nacht seine verdiente Bühne bekommen.
