Jeru The Damaja ist ein MC, Produzent, Fotograf und Filmemacher, der seit über 25 Jahren ein fester Bestandteil der Hip-Hop-Kultur ist – von seinen frühen Kooperationen mit der legendären Gang Starr bis heute.
Geboren als Kendrick Jeru Davis im rauen Stadtteil East New York in Brooklyn, verfeinerte Jeru seine Fähigkeiten als MC, während er sich durch die oft lebensgefährlichen Straßen seines berüchtigten Brooklyner Viertels bewegte. In den späten 80er Jahren hatte Jeru das Glück, durch einen Freund aus Kindertagen Guru von Gang Starr kennenzulernen. Gang Starr stellte Jeru The Damaja erstmals der Welt auf dem Track „I’m the Man“ ihres 1992 erschienenen Albums „Daily Operation“ vor. Jerus erste beiden Alben „Sun Rises in The East“ und „Wrath Of The Math“ wurden vollständig von DJ Premier produziert und gelten als Hip-Hop-Klassiker. Jerus Musik ist in zahlreichen Videospielen, Fernsehsendungen und Filmen wie „Grand Theft Auto“, „Narcos“ und „Mid90s“ zu hören, um nur einige zu nennen. Jeru hat mit vielen internationalen Gold- und Platin-Künstlern zusammengearbeitet, darunter die Grammy-nominierte Groove Armada, Japans DJ Honda, die polnische Rap-Gruppe Slums Attack, Cut Killer aus Paris, Frankreich, das Drum-and-Bass-Duo Camo and Krooked und viele mehr. In den letzten Jahren hat Jeru beschlossen, seine Kreativität in neue, unerforschte Bereiche voranzutreiben, indem er nach Berlin, Deutschland, gezogen ist. Im Jahr 2020 wird Jeru sein sechstes Studioalbum in einer unkonventionellen, unorthodoxen Weise veröffentlichen, wie es dem Mann gebührt, der als D. Original bekannt ist.

Jeru The Damaja is an MC, producer, photographer, and filmmaker who has been a fixture of hip-hop culture for over 25 years—ranging from his early collaborations with the legendary Gang Starr to the present day.
Born Kendrick Jeru Davis in the rough neighborhood of East New York in Brooklyn, Jeru honed his skills as an MC while navigating the often life-threatening streets of his notorious Brooklyn area. In the late 1980s, Jeru was fortunate to be introduced to Guru of Gang Starr through a childhood friend. Gang Starr first presented Jeru The Damaja to the world on the track “I’m the Man” from their 1992 album Daily Operation. Jeru’s first two albums, Sun Rises in The East and Wrath of The Math, were entirely produced by DJ Premier and are regarded as hip-hop classics.
Jeru’s music has been featured in numerous video games, television shows, and films such as Grand Theft Auto, Narcos, and Mid90s, among others. He has collaborated with many internationally recognized gold- and platinum-selling artists, including the Grammy-nominated Groove Armada, Japan’s DJ Honda, Polish rap group Slums Attack, Cut Killer from Paris, France, the drum and bass duo Camo & Krooked, and many more.
In recent years, Jeru has chosen to push his creativity into new, uncharted territory by relocating to Berlin, Germany. In 2020, Jeru will release his sixth studio album in an unconventional, unorthodox manner befitting the man known as D. Original.
