Niklas Wandt is a percussionist, producer, DJ, and radio host based in Berlin. His eclectic musical approach is most regularly showcased at the basement club Sameheads, where his sets traverse a lush sonic palette driven by hypnotic, percussive rhythms. From tripped-out downtempo and afro-funky cosmic sounds (think Rimini 1995) to progressive and tribal house, trance, warped techno, and warm tech house — his DJ sets are known for their high energy and seamless, extended blends.

Wandt’s impeccable sense of rhythm stems from his musical roots in drumming. He honed his skills performing in hip-hop, psychedelic rock, and free jazz projects, and has been closely connected to the experimental and genre-defying scene around Salon des Amateurs in Düsseldorf. It was there that he formed a lasting creative bond with producer Jan Schulte, also known as Wolf Müller / Bufiman. The duo’s acclaimed double LP Instrumentalmusik von der Mitte der Welt (2018, Growing Bin Records) delivered a blissful neo-Balearic sound that continues to influence today’s underground.

Wandt is also one half of Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge, a duo whose releases on Themes for Great Cities, Bureau B, and Lustpoderosa have become cult favorites. Additionally, he collaborates with veteran producer Sascha Funke, releasing two records on Multi Culti and a third on R.A.N.D. Muzik. His work has also appeared on respected labels such as Bureau B, Permanent Vacation, Animals Dancing, Neubau, Warning, and Edizioni Mondo/Running Back.

Wandt’s various projects have taken him across Europe, with appearances at leading festivals including Nuits Sonores, Melt, Fusion, Garbicz, Unsound, and Dancity, as well as international performances in China, Israel & Palestine, the US, Chile, Peru, and Mexico.

In February 2025, Wandt released Mineral House Vol. 1, his first collaborative EP with Amsterdam-based producer Retromigration, via the revered Berlin label Love on the Rocks.

By day, Wandt is a respected music journalist, critic, and presenter. His features, portraits, and reviews — with a particular focus on jazz and its many branches — are regularly broadcast on German public radio stations including WDR 3, Deutschlandfunk, and SWR Kultur.

Niklas Wandt ist Perkussionist, Produzent, DJ und Radio-Host. Er lebt in Berlin, wo er seinen eklektischen Musikstil regelmäßig im Kellerclub Sameheads präsentiert. Dort entfaltet er ein üppiges Klangspektrum mit hypnotischem, stark perkussivem Drive – von trippigem Downtempo und afro-funkiger Cosmic Music (man denke an Rimini 1995) bis hin zu progressivem und tribalem House, Trance, verzerrtem Techno und warmem Tech House. Seine DJ-Sets sind energetisch, fließend und kunstvoll verwoben.

Sein ausgeprägtes Rhythmusgefühl hat Wandt seiner musikalischen Herkunft zu verdanken: Er lernte sein Handwerk als Schlagzeuger in Hip-Hop-, Psychedelic-Rock- und Free-Jazz-Projekten und war Teil zahlreicher Formationen rund um den legendären Club Salon des Amateurs in Düsseldorf. Dort entstand auch die musikalische Verbindung zu Jan Schulte aka Wolf Müller / Bufiman. Gemeinsam veröffentlichten sie 2018 das hochgelobte Doppelalbum Instrumentalmusik von der Mitte der Welt auf Growing Bin Records, dessen blissiger Neo-Balearic-Sound bis heute nachwirkt.

Wandt ist außerdem Mitglied der Band Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge, deren Releases auf Labels wie Themes for Great Cities, Bureau B und Lustpoderosa zu Underground-Favoriten wurden. Mit dem Berliner Produzenten Sascha Funke bildet er ein weiteres Duo – zwei gemeinsame EPs erschienen bei Multi Culti, eine dritte bei R.A.N.D. Muzik.
