A few months ago, organist and bandleader Delvon Lamarr brought his signature sound to Frankfurt, Germany, for an unforgettable performance with Jazz Montez. Before he took the stage together with his sister Elena Pinderhughes, Dani Murcia, Elliott Skinner and special guest Jebreal Jackson, Samora sat down with John Steinmark for an interview in our series "Jazz is our Democracy". In it, we speak about his creative approach and its relation to various social and political issues we face today. We talk about his musical and artistic development, which lead to such ambitious endeavours as the Healing Project, which deals with the prison-industrial complex in the US. Joel takes us along on his musical journey, from sharing drum duties with his twin brother in church in Chicago, to moving to New York and becoming one of the most sought-after and celebrated “cats” of his generation. He describes his “self-less” approach to playing music and contemplates what society at large might take away from that.

KonzertWanubalé
Am Sonntag, den 5. Juli, kommen zwei Bands, Wanubalé und MOSES YOOFEE, aus Berlin nach Frankfurt am Main, um im Studio Lotte Lindenberg jeweils einen Track für die Compilation zur Konzertreihe JAZZ im AF aufzunehmen. Unter dem Titel „a day in the lifestream“ werden die Aufnahmesessions ab 10.00 Uhr einen Tag lang aus dem Studio per Livestream auf YouTube und Facebook im Internet übertragen. Das bietet den Zuschauern einen einmaligen Blick hinter die Kulissen eines Tonstudios, indem man den Bands und Tonmeistern beim Aufbau, Soundcheck und den Studiotakes zuschauen kann. Über den ganzen Tag verteilt finden Interviews mit am Projekt beteiligten Musikern, Toningenieuren, Produzenten und den Veranstaltern ATELIERFRANKFURT (AF) und Jazz Montez statt. Außerdem werden verschiedene Videos von vergangenen Konzerten und Aufnahmesessions von JAZZ im AF erstmalig ausgestrahlt. Die Zuschauer haben ganztäglich die Möglichkeit, Fragen zu den Aufnahmen zu stellen und das Projekt durch Spenden zu unterstützen, damit Schallplatten der Aufnahmen gepresst werden können.
